Former Kenyan international Collins Okoth is set to remain in police custody pending police investigations.

The former AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia talisman has been in police custody for one month now in connection to the murder of a three-year-old.

Okoth is the key suspect in the murder of the girl found dead outside her mother’s house in Lucky Summer Estate in Starehe Sub County.

The former midfielder was presented to the Makadara Law Courts on Monday morning, where the investigating officer sought more days to allow for the DNA test to be conducted.

The murder was first reported at the Lucky Summer Police Station under OB17/22/04/2024 by Lucky Summer Assistant Chief Peris Muthoni. Police investigations tied the murder to Okoth, who lived in the same building after they found the tool used to break into the house thrown behind the house.

According to a report by a local newspaper outlet, Okoth became restless after the weapon that was used to break into the mother of the child’s house was discovered, leading to his arrest.

Okoth’s controversial career

Okoth is not new to controversy, hitting the headlines numerous times for the erratic behavior he had come to be associated with. In 2018, the then Goal.com reporter Seth Onserio reportedly received threats from the midfielder after he had reported of Okoth’s erratic tendencies in training.

A red card for foul talk in a CAF Confederations fixture against Mozambique, accusations of child neglect, and irregularly quitting clubs were all part of what formed the career of the former Gor Mahia marksman.

Okoth ‘Gatusso’ will be detained for 10 days to allow the officers in charge to conclude their investigation.
