Michael Olunga joins Qatar’s Al Arabi on a 2-year deal

Kenyan international Michael Olunga has officially signed for Al Arabi Sports Club, marking a new chapter in his decorated career in Qatar. The 31-year-old striker joins the club on a two-year deal, just weeks after bidding an emotional farewell to Al Duhail SC, where he became the club’s all-time top scorer.
Olunga’s move was confirmed by Al Arabi on their official X account on Friday, July 5, 2025, sparking excitement among fans eager to see him don their red and white shirt.
“Al Arabi Sports Club is pleased to announce the signing of Kenyan striker Michael Olunga on a two-year contract,” the club posted.
This transfer comes after Olunga ended his four-and-a-half-year spell with Al Duhail in May, a period that will go down in history for both player and club. Since arriving in Doha from Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol in January 2021, Olunga netted an incredible 130 goals, becoming a fan favourite and a key figure in the club’s domestic and continental campaigns.
At Al Duhail, Olunga won several major honours, including Qatar Stars League titles and multiple cup trophies. His ability to deliver in crucial moments, like his debut goal in a 7-1 win over Al Wakrah and standout performances against rivals like Al Rayyan, cemented his place as one of the most feared strikers in the region.
Following his departure, Olunga spoke of his deep appreciation for Al Duhail, the fans, and the city of Doha. He hinted at a possible return in the future, whether as a player, coach, or official.

Fresh challenge in Qatar
Now at Al Arabi, Olunga will be expected to bring his experience, leadership, and goal-scoring prowess to help the club challenge for top honours. Al Arabi, one of Qatar’s most historic football clubs, is hoping that Olunga’s arrival will strengthen their attacking options and inspire a strong league campaign.
Olunga’s move has also been welcomed by Kenyan football fans, who continue to follow his journey closely. With his eyes now set on making an impact at Al Arabi, the Nairobi-born striker begins a fresh chapter in the Gulf, full of promise and new goals to chase.
