McKinstry buoyant ahead of Gor Mahia’s trip to Mombasa

Ahead of their Football Kenya Federation Premier League match against Bandari, Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry is confident his players will deliver.

K’Ogalo will take on the Dockers at Mbaraki Stadium, enjoying a 10-point lead at the top. Bandari, who defeated Shabana in their last duel, being third on the table is expected to give the league’s defending champions a run for their money.

Gor Mahia widened the gap after beating Posta Rangers 4-0 in their last match.

“These types of wins (against Rangers) give the fans, the club, and the players more energy, and we have a huge game next against Bandari in Mombasa, and we just have to reset again, but these guys are capable of anything,” McKinstry told the press.

Victory over Rangers

The former Rwanda and Uganda head coach said his charges would have enjoyed a win by a bigger margin against Rangers, given how they played.

“I don’t think I am being crude by saying it; it could have been eight or nine goals. We are very pleased with the four goals.

“But if we think of the other ones that were cleared off the line and were just narrowly missed, it could have been eight or nine goals,” he added.

McKinstry went ahead to defend Gor Mahia’s elimination from the FKF Cup by Denmark FC in a previous encounter.

“We made a strategic decision to leave almost all of the entire starting 11 of Saturday’s game in Nairobi. We did not even travel with them to Mombasa last week because we knew they needed that reset; they needed a few days off to get their energy back.

“We knew if we gave them that and took a risk in the cup, we would be able to reset and fly in the last 12 games of the season, and in training, they gave us so much energy, and we saw it in the performance,” the North Irish tactician concluded.
