Magical Kenya Open: Sports CS Amina Mohamed lauds Kenyan teenager golfer Njoroge Kibugu

Sports CS Amina Mohamed has heaped praise on Kenyan teenager golfer Njoroge Kibugu after a sensational showing at the Magical Kenyan Open yesterday.

The Youngster has all but made the cut after posting a -5 score 66 during Round Two at the Muthaiga Golf Club, and Amina has asked Kenyan fans to cheer on the player in the remaining two rounds.

The 19-year-old amateur bettered his Round One score of -1 70 by four strokes and is destined to be only the second Kenyan to make the cut. His knowledge of his home-turf helped a whole deal plus his great rapport with his caddie Bo. The player is ranked 751 by the World Amateur Golf Ranking and this is bound to get better if he advances further.

His day on the course was exceptional especially when he finished the 18th hole with an eagle. He had three birdies in the game and shot 14 par thus completing an exceptional outing which currently places him at a favourable place with 136 points in the bag off two rounds.

“For me, I just try to play and enjoy because if anybody puts a cut as his target then it will be more pressure. Starting off in the first six holes from the front 9, I was just saving my balls and staying cool in my process. I was basically having fun out there as I cracked jokes with my caddie and engaged in small talk with my fellow players Jayden and Max who are social guys. It was just like playing a regular 18 hole with friends,” he told the Press after his game Friday.

Kibugu added: “I am just grateful to be in this position and I want to thank those around me for always supporting and trusting in me. My second-round game was not without challenges because in the morning it was windy. I want to thank my caddie especially because we have been friends for a long time, and he caddied for me last year in the Savannah Classic even though it did not go well. “
