Akoth’s transfer was confirmed by the agency managing the attacking midfielder’s affairs on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
“After spending the second part of the 2024-25 season on loan at Yanga Princess, we would like to confirm that our client and the 2023-24 season FKF Women Premier MVP Lydia Akoth, will permanently join the Tanzanian side from Kenya Police Bullets FC,” part of the statement read.
Two years
“Nicknamed Ozil, the versatile midfielder will officially join her new home from 1st of August 2025, for a period of two years,” the statement continued.
The former Bullets has been in the books of the Yanga ladies team from the start of the year, albeit on loan from KWPL side Police Bullets FC, whom she concluded the 2023/24 season on a high as the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP).
She has since made a switch to the club, adding to the growing number of Kenyan footballers joining the country’s top-tier league.

Simba Queens boast a majority of Kenyan footballers plying their trade in the Tanzania league, with goalkeeper Winfrida Ceda, defenders Ruth Ingosi and Wincate Kaari in their ranks.
Harambee Stars vice-captain, Corazone Adhiambo and the striking duo of Jentrix Shikangwa and Elizabeth Wambui complete the list of the stars in the Msimbazi ladies team.
Yanga’s stint
Among her standout performances since joining Yanga Princess include clinching her maiden silverware in March with the crowning of the 2025 Samia Women’s Super Cup.
The enforcer was also the subject of praise on Tuesday, March 18, as Yanga Princess came up clutch in the Kariakoo women’s derby against rivals Simba Queens.
Speaking to the club portal after the game, Akoth disclosed that teamwork was key in upsetting their opponents.
“It has been a tough game, but we worked as a team. We stuck to the coach’s instructions and played as a unit, leading to the goal and the victory,” she said.
Maiden derby win
“I’m happy to be part of the winning side in such a huge clash. We continue to work and stretch the winning run to other games,” she pledged.
The then Police Bullets star vowed to stretch her impressive run in reciprocation of the love from the Green and Gold.
“It’s a big motivation for me as a player. I have to return the favours to the fans who have been massive in their support. I’m thankful for them, and I promise to give more entertainment,” she said.
