Lucky punters hit Sh33 million SportPesa jackpot
Hannis Okeyo, 25, and James Mwangi, 27, are the latest winners of Sh33,995,492 SportPesa MidWeek Jackpot.
The two puntes correctly predicted the outcome of 13 football matches in the midweek jackpot last week to win the amount, which will be shared among them equally. Each will take home Sh16,997,746, before tax.
Okeyo, a fisherman from Kendu Bay, said he has been gaming with SportPesa since its launch in 2014, and plans to continue.
“I am so happy and thankful to God. This also allows me to invest in modern fishing gear and invest in a lorry,” said Mr Okeyo.
For Mwangi, a house agent and employee of a sacco in Thika, he can now pay the dowry of his longtime girlfriend, marry her and start his family.
“I have been playing the jackpot for the last four years. I have different projects I am working on and this money will assist me in finishing them,” he said.
Mwangi had placed two bets on the jackpot where one got him the overall prize while he missed the second one by wrong prediction. He, however, still got a bonus payout of Sh108,569.
The SportPesa Midweek Jackpot starts at Sh10 million and increases each week if no one wins it.
Once it is won it is reset to Sh10 million. It is the only progressive jackpot in the market.
SportPesa also offers a Mega Jackpot product which starts at Sh100 million and also increases each week until it is won. The Mega Jackpot currently stands at Sh176,345,805.
This latest win marks the fifth time the midweek jackpot has been won this year. In January Mutuku Muoka won Sh12,444,454.
Later on, in May the jackpot was won twice within a few days by Charles Bonzo who took home Sh11,515,591 and Simon Musembi who got Sh10 million. In April Maurice Vidija won Sh21,466,442.
