It’s envisaged to be a matter of retribution when Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League table-toppers Gor Mahia take on Kenya Police in a potentially explosive fixture at Kasarani Main Stadium on Saturday.

Gor have not forgiven the law enforcers for invading their ranks and making away with their utility players including Musa Mohammed and Harun Shakava, both former captains at Sirkal, and Cliffton Miheso.

Add onto the fact that Francis Kahata, upon expiry of his contract at Tanzanian giants Dar Simba, turned down offers to re-sign for Gor and opted to test waters at Police which is enjoying its second stint at the country’s top-tier league and you may understand Gor’s exasperation.

The incursion by Police at Gor is not in vain as the team went ahead to beat the multiple champions 2-0 in the first leg match. There is certainly no love lost between the two teams as Gor shall be going flat out to avenge the loss that left K’Ogalo’s fans at Moi Stadium in Kisumu disappointed.

Gor are leading the log with Police being placed in the fourth position and to allude that the match is a cliff-hanger could be an understatement.

The match also presents Gor’s red-hot striker Benson Omala, who is the leading scorer in the league with 15 goals, to extend his tally in his quest to grab the Golden Boot Award at the end of the season.

Omala is engaged in a battle of finishing as he is pursued by Elvis Rupia of Police who has 11 strikes thus far in the campaign.

Meanwhile, Kariobangi Sharks and Sofapaka are both at threshold of the relegation zone and none of them can afford to lose points when they clash at Kasarani Annex today (Friday).

Sofapaka, the 2009 champions, have not won in their last two fixtures and badly need victory to placate their fans who have not tasted success ever since the team won its maiden title in 2009.

Last weekend, Bidco United defeated Sofapaka 2-0 with goals by Peter Nzuki and Samuel Ndung’u in either half sealing the match as a contest and this is a spell Batoto Ba Mungu would wish to cast away. Sofapaka coach David Ouma believes that his charges still have a chance to bounce back despite the indifferent results.

“We have been keeping the ball well and are exceptional in half spaces but unfortunately, we end up not getting the desired results. These are frailties I have been addressing day in day out and hopefully, you will see a different Sofapaka as the league progresses,” offered Ouma.

Sofapaka, who are placed in the 12trh slot, has roped in several young players, most notably 19-year-old striker Maqbul “Agwambo” Ocholla, South Sudanese Jacob Adis Koal and Congolese Rody Manga and these are some of Ouma’s trump cards in his quest to turn round the fortunes of the team.

As for Sharks who are in the thirteenth position, they will be seeking for another great show after frustrating AFC Leopards last weekend before restricting the big cats to a barren draw at Nyayo National Stadium.

Sharks coach William Muluya is relishing the weekend match against Sofapaka, saying that it will give a dimension of his team’s destiny going into the halfway stage of the league.

“We are ready and confident of getting good results. Against Leopards, we carved a good number of scoring chances which we failed to make use of but I hope this time round thing shall change for the better,’’ said Muluya.

He added: “I took a critical look at my charges and was convinced that it was just a stroke of bad luck that we did not beat Leopards.”

For Sharks, they are expected to lean heavily on the likes of Moses Shikanda and Keith Imbali, among others, to register maximum points.
