Ladies’ netball coach Makau picks 20 players for preps

Kenya ladies’ netball team head coach Joseph Makau has called up 20 players in preparation for the Pacific Aus Sports Netball Series to be held in Gold Coast, Australia next month.

Speaking at Nairobi’s City Stadium on Wednesday, the tactician was happy with the turnout as the players started streaming into the training camp.

“We will be training for the next three weeks as I watch how the ladies are physically and also mentally.

“I am hoping to trim down this number to 12 by the end of my training camp ready for Australia,” said coach Makau.

The Kenya national ladies’ netball team has some notable names led by captain Parin Simiyu of Kenya Prisons. Others are Ulinzi’s Bridgit Nanzala, Pauline Ramadhan of Kenya Prisons as well as the 2022 African championships woman of the tournament Beatrice Kabucho also from Kenya Prisons.

Makau has also called up Rookies’ Vida Otieno — who just signed up for Ulinzi — and college girl Hellen Sinoya of KCA University.

“We are trying them out to see if they can fill up some positions for the future since some of our players are also aged. We have been monitoring them for a while now and it’s now time for them to prove their worth and make it to Gold coast,” said Kenya Netball Federation Secretary General Millicent Busolo who was at hand to make sure that the ladies were okay.
