Nairobi City Stars’ recent acquisition, Yuto Kusaba, expressed his determination to overcome the challenges that have delayed his dream of becoming the first Japanese player to feature in the FKF Premier League.

Despite facing setbacks, he remains committed to maintaining a “Hakuna Matata” spirit.

Kusaba debut delay

Kusaba, a forward signed from FC Zenshi, was unveiled on August 24, 2023. However, City Stars later confirmed that his debut would be delayed, possibly until after the first round of the new season.

The delay, according to City Stars’ CEO, Patrick Korir, was due to late completion of the transfer process.

In a statement shared on his social media accounts, Kusaba expressed his enthusiasm for playing in Kenya but highlighted the challenges he has encountered, including issues with contracts, visas, registration, and funds. Despite these obstacles, he remains confident in his ability to overcome them.

Kusaba’s thoughts

“I joined a professional team in Kenya, but one problem after another keeps coming my way (contract, visa, registration, funds, etc.) Playing soccer in Kenya as a foreigner is very challenging. However, with the spirit of ‘Hakuna Matata,’ I can definitely overcome anything,” he stated.

Kusaba is among the nine new players signed by City Stars during the transfer window, including goalkeepers Julius Ombacho from Luanda Villa and Edwin Mukolwe from Bidco United.
