KRU unveils Shujaa and Morans squads for Safari 7s

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has unveiled squads that will do duty for the national teams’ 7s and 15s sides, Sujaa and Morans, at the 2025 Safari Sevens slated for Friday, October 10, to Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi.

With just days to go before the 27th edition of the Safari7s kicks off, head coach Kevin Mwema has unveiled the Shujaa and Morans squads that will fly the Kenyan flag in Africa’s premier rugby sevens tournament.

The Shujaa team, led by co-captains George Ooro and Samuel Asati, blends experience and explosive pace, promising thrilling rugby for the home crowd.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s second string, the Morans, will showcase the depth of local talent with John Okoth captaining a squad brimming with youth and hunger. Several players will be making their Safari Sevens debut, including exciting prospects like Clinton Amukachi, Daniel Kipchirchir, and Rayvon Ambale, as they look to make their mark.

Speaking on the selections, Kevin Mwema expressed confidence in both squads: “This year’s Safari7s is not just about showcasing talent but about building depth and testing combinations as we prepare for bigger challenges ahead. The blend of experience and debutants gives us balance, and the home fans can expect a feast of rugby.”

Meanwhile, this year’s edition will mark the first time since 2021 that the iconic stadium will host the tournament. That year, Kenya’s Shujaa delighted home fans by clinching the title on familiar turf. After being staged at the Machakos Stadium in 2024, where Shujaa and Costa Blanca Ladies emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively, the event now makes its grand return to Nairobi’s historic sports venue.
