Koyonzo High win National Schools 7s title

Koyonzo High School has secured their second consecutive title in the KSSSA National Rugby 7s championship by defeating Vihiga School with a score of 22-12 at the renowned Bull Ring in Kakamega.

In order to defend their championship, Koyonzo embarked on an undefeated journey in all matches securing yet another qualification for the East African games, marking their second consecutive year of participation.

The Stormers asserted their dominance by establishing a commanding 15-7 lead by halftime. Although the second half concluded with just one successful conversion for them, the task had already been accomplished.

Joseph Jibril secured two goals, while Brandon Mulefu and Kevin Otieno, who have displayed an impressive streak of successful scores throughout the tournament, each contributed a try.

On the opposing side, Owen Kedera managed to secure one try for his team, and Victor Wawire achieved both a try and a successful conversion for Vihiga, despite their loss.

St. Mary’s Yala’s ticket to the East African games was sealed with a resounding 40-5 victory against Kitondo in the third-place playoffs. This achievement places them alongside Koyonzo and Vihiga in the roster of teams set to travel.

Bwake Boys claimed the fifth spot following a convincing 24-7 win over Bungoma High during the fifth-place playoffs.

Koyonzo’s path to the final was secured with a dominant 33-0 triumph over the emerging surprise of the competition, Kitondo.

By crossing the try line on five occasions and skillfully converting each time, The Stormers secured a momentous triumph, securing their place in the final for the second consecutive year.

Branton Mulefu’s standout performance was highlighted by a duo of tries, while Maxwell Kipsang, Kevin Otieno, and Darrel Omondi each made their mark with a single try. Eric Simiyu impressively nailed four conversions during this victorious match.

In the semifinals, Vihiga put their brilliance on full display, securing a resounding victory over Yala with a score of 36-7. They surged to a dominant 24-0 advantage by halftime.

Roy Maruti had a brace in the win while Owen Kedera, Belan Kiketi and Brandon Lilumbi also had a try each in the win. Albert Ochieng scores the consolation try for Yala.
