Korir promises bold sports reforms after NOCK election win
By Luke Oluoch, July 21, 2025Newly elected National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) First Deputy President Barnabas Korir has promised to initiate far-reaching reforms during his tenure as the Olympic body’s auxiliary president.
Taking to his Facebook page after the NOCK election held on Monday, July 21, 2025, Korir urged other elected officials to join him in delivering a lasting legacy after earning fresh mandates to lead the body.
“Thank you to my fellow sports federations, delegates, athletes, and colleagues who stood by the values of leadership, service, and transformation. This win is not mine alone; it belongs to the athletics fraternity, to youth development champions, and to every Kenyan who believes in sports as a force for national unity and opportunity,” Korir said.
Redefining Sports
The Athletics Kenya National Youth chair, who ran alongside new president Shadrack Maluki, under the Team Dawn, promised to stay true to their pledge of championing sweeping reforms.
“Together with our new NOCK President, Mr. Shadrack Maluki, and the rest of the elected team, I am committed to redefining this position beyond administration to transform it into a vibrant engine that drives the sports industry in Kenya. From grassroots talent development to athlete welfare and Olympic performance, I promise to champion bold, inclusive, and transparent reforms that uplift all disciplines. The real work begins now. Let’s roll up our sleeves and build a legacy we can all be proud of,” he added.
The household name in Kenya’s athletics scene was among those elected to leadership positions led by the new president, Maluki. The team will now be tasked with overseeing decisions critical in shaping Kenya’s sporting legacy and continuing the country’s rich Olympic history.

Others included Kenya Hockey Union Chairman Nashon Randiek, who narrowly clinched the second deputy president seat.
The KHU chair garnered 14 votes against outgoing treasurer Eliud Kariuki, who got 13.
Francis Karugu was also elected as the new NOCK’s Deputy Treasurer.
The president of the Kenya Softball Federation beat IOC Athletes’ Commission member and outgoing representative Humphrey Kayange by a single vote.
John Ogolla is the new Secretary General of the Olympic Committee Body after being reelected unopposed.
The official from the weightlifting association was among the three candidates who stood unopposed alongside Charles Mose from Cycling, who will be the new deputy treasurer, and legendary athlete Eliud Kipchoge as the male athlete representative.
