Kombo appointed as KRU vice-chairman

By , April 6, 2022

Kenya Rugby Union board has appointed Kikechi Kombo to be the acting vice-chairman as allowed by clause 10.2.2 of the KRU constitution.

The new changes will see the Muhuri Muchiri High School rugby patron and Kiswahili teacher assume one of the highest ranks in KRU after serving as a director for three years.

Kikechi took over from the immediate former Vice-Chairman Thomas Opiyo who vacated office during the Union’s AGM on Wednesday last week after his term expired.

The Union hailed Opiyo for his service in the game, first as a Kenyan international player then as the chairman of Nondescripts and vice chairman of the Union.

“We take this opportunity to thank him for his exceptional service and selfless contribution to the game and wish him well in his future endeavors,” Union’s secretary Ian Mugambi said.

Mugambi also notified the Union’s affiliates and stakeholders of a further two-month extension to comply with the provisions of the Sports Act to enable the Union to hold elections within the given period.
