Kisumu All Starlets head coach Juma Said is making a passionate appeal for financial backing as his team gears up for the upcoming Kenya Women’s Premier League season.

Said’s call comes following a tough campaign last season, where the lakeside team finished perilously close to relegation. Apart from squad issues, Said believes that inadequate financial resources played a major role in the team’s struggles.

Speaking to People Daily Sports on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, he emphasised that the absence of sponsors made it difficult to manage the team’s logistics, especially given that most players travel long distances to attend training and match-day activities.

Financial struggles

“ Last season, we encountered financial challenges. It’s incredibly tough to compete at this level without financial support,” Said lamented.

“Most of our players come from far. Women’s Premier League is demanding. Without sponsors, it becomes difficult.”

Kisumu All Starlets avoided relegation by a whisker last season; the team finished just one position above the relegation zone. Kisumu finished 8th on the log with 22 points out of 20 outings in the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League. Said also revealed the team will be making new signings in a bid to reinforce for next season.

While the tactician acknowledged that his players gave their all last season, he noted that inefficiencies in the attacking third cost them crucial points. However, his primary concern now lies beyond tactics—he’s focused on finding partners who can help the team stay afloat and compete effectively.

As the team intensifies preparations for the new season, Said disclosed that they are actively recruiting new talent, including strikers, midfielders, and a goalkeeper, to inject fresh energy into the squad. But without a financial injection, those plans may stall.

“We are working hard to rebuild the squad and strengthen key areas, but without funding, our efforts may not be enough,” he said.

Coach Said now hopes that well-wishers can come on board to support women’s football in Kisumu, noting that investing in the team. Said’s message is that Kisumu All Starlets need a lifeline for easy operations in the women’s top-tier league.
