President Ruto joins nation in celebrating Kipruto’s Tokyo marathon victory

President William Ruto has extended his congratulations to Benson Kipruto for his remarkable victory at the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday morning.

Kipruto’s exceptional performance saw him move up to fifth on the all-time marathon list, clocking an impressive time of 2:02:16 and setting new Japanese all-comers records.

The race witnessed a Kenyan-dominated podium, with Timothy Kiplagat and Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich securing second and third place, respectively.

In his congratulatory message, Ruto expressed pride in the achievements of the Kenyan athletes, highlighting their dedication and hard work that have earned them global recognition.

He commended Kipruto, Kiplagat, and Ngetich for their outstanding performance and for the honour they bring to the nation.

“Congratulations Benson Kipruto, Timothy Kiplagat, and Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich for the breathtaking podium sweep in the Tokyo Marathon. Your hard work and dedication to the sport have earned you all respect globally, and it makes us very proud of you. Cheers!” the President’s statement revealed.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also joined in celebrating the success of Kenyan athletes at the Tokyo Marathon. He lauded Benson Kipruto for clinching victory and setting a new course record

“Our prowess in athletics has again been affirmed at the Tokyo Marathon this morning, where Kenyans swept the podium in an enviable fashion. Congratulations, Benson Kipruto, for winning the Marathon in a course record of 2.02.16. Bravo Timothy Kiplagat and Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich for finishing second and third, respectively. My plaudits also to Rosemary Wanjiru for coming in second in the women’s race,” Gachagua stated.

The First Lady Rachel Ruto celebrated Kipruto’s podium finish and new course record, expressing pride in their achievements. She also acknowledged Rosemary Wanjiru’s commendable performance in the women’s race.

“Congratulations to Benson Kipruto, Timothy Kiplagat, and Vincent Kipkemoi for their outstanding performances at the Men’s Tokyo Marathon. It is a podium finish for Kenya, with Kipruto setting a new course record! We also extend our congratulations to Rosemary Wanjiru for her brilliant performance in the women’s race, finishing second. We are proud of you!” Rachel said.

Duale to Benson Kipruto

Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Defence Aden Duale hailed Team Kenya for their stellar performance at the 2024 Tokyo Marathon.

He remarked, “A monumental victory! Huge congratulations to Benson Kipruto for winning the 2024 Tokyo Marathon and setting a sensational new personal best of 2:02:16! Your dedication and hard work have truly paid off. Kenya shines brighter today because of your achievement.”

Principal Secretary, State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo on his part commended Kipruto for clinching victory and setting a new personal best record of 2:02:16, with Timothy Kiplagat and Vincent Ngetich securing podium finishes.

“It is another Kenyan record and track affair! Congratulations Benson Kipruto for winning the 2024 Tokyo Marathon and setting a new personal best record of 2:02:16. Timothy Kiplagat and Vincent Ngetich came second and third respectively,” Omollo shared.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said: I can’t keep calm! Thrilled to be celebrating with fellow Kenyans another monumental achievement by our world-beating athletes. Today, we honour Benson Kipruto, who has brought glory to our nation by winning the 2024 #TokyoMarathon. His phenomenal performance, finishing with a new course record and a personal best of 2:02:16, is a testament to the relentless spirit that defines our athletes. Well in, Timothy Kiplimo.”

Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya Justin Muturi on his part said: “A monumental victory! Huge congratulations to Benson Kipruto for winning the 2024 #TokyoMarathon and setting a sensational new personal best of 2:02:16! Your dedication and hard work have truly paid off. Kenya shines brighter today because of your achievement.”
