The family of renowned athlete Kipchoge Keino has unveiled ambitious blueprints for a state-of-the-art sports complex, to be constructed in Eldoret.
CEO Martin Keino (pictured), spearheading the Keino Sports Holding, announced that plans for the ground-breaking of the sprawling sports hub, spread across a sprawling 75-acre plot, have reached an advanced stage, with the commencement of construction scheduled for early next year.
The complex will be strategically located within Kipchoge Keino’s farmland, recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a high-performance training center, primarily focused on nurturing middle and long-distance athletes.
With the extensive project expected to entail substantial investments, Keino stated “We, as a family, are planing to construct a sports complex center which will be an extension of the Kipkeino High Altitude Training Center.”
He further emphasized the need for expanded facilities to cater to the growing sporting community in the region, outlining their intent to establish a comprehensive hub for diverse sporting disciplines.
“We are targeting all sports and top athletes from different disciplines to come and train at the facility as well as those who will want to play for recreational,” Keino added.
Envisioned as a cutting-edge facility, the sports complex will encompass an array of sports amenities, including basketball courts, volleyball and hockey fields, football and athletics tracks, an indoor arena, and accommodation provisions.
Upon its completion, the sports complex is poised to become a prominent host for school tournaments, local competitions, and international sporting events, contributing to the burgeoning landscape of sports tourism in Eldoret and its environs.
With a projected timeline of three to five years for the construction, Keino affirmed their commitment to delivering a world-class international sporting facility, leveraging Eldoret’s forthcoming city status.
Moreover, the facility intends to offer subsidized accommodation services for athletes requiring extended stays, further underscoring the Keino family’s dedication to nurturing and supporting sportsmen and women within the region.
