Kinyamal majestically defends his 800M Commonwealth title

By , August 7, 2022

Wycliffe Kinyamal successfully defended the 800 metres crown at the Commonwealth Games when he sped off the rest of the field to claim Kenya’s fifth gold medal.

Kinyamal, Kenya’s sole representative in the final clocked 1:47.52 to finish ahead of Peter Bol of Australia who clocked 1:47.66. England’s Ben Pattison claimed bronze in 1:48.25.

Kinyamal must have witnessed the mistakes done by his counterparts and he decided to take matters into his own hands, leading from start to finish.

In the last 400m, Australian Bol, who was Kinyamal’s real threat in the race, tried coming from the outside but the outstanding Kenyan ensured that he did enough to retain his title.
