Kimilili Boys baptise Kamito counterparts in handball clash

By , April 10, 2025

Defending champions and Western Region handball giants, St Luke’s Kimilili Boys, reasserted their supremacy with a commanding 37-20 victory over a determined St Albert Kamito Boys from Rift Valley Region in an electrifying Pool B showdown at the Brookside 2025 Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) games held at Shimo la Tewa School, Mombasa, yesterday.

Kimilili Boys, widely regarded as a handball powerhouse, wasted no time asserting their authority, with their talisman Xaviour Omasaja netting an impressive 12 goals to dismantle a Kamito side that had entered the match fresh off a morale-boosting 23-14 win against Central Region’s Makuyu Boys.

Into semi-finals

The Western Region champions have now secured a spot in the semi-finals slated for tomorrow.

Kimilili Boys began their campaign with a resounding 36-19 victory over Coastal Region’s Jaribuni Boys on Monday before following it up with their second straight win against Kamito.

Adukhakim Wafula and Hillary Otiengi contributed significantly to the win with six and five goals respectively, while Kelly Wekesa and Fred Masinde each added four goals to the tally.

Captain Dan Ngoni, who also found the net twice, led from the front with a commanding presence on and off the court. Newton Wanjala and Kipkoech Obadia chipped in with one goal apiece to help Kimilili storm into the last four with style.

Rigorous prep

Speaking to People Sports after the match, a visibly elated Ngoni attributed their success to the intense training sessions the team underwent ahead of the tournament.

“We put our best foot forward today because we wanted to reach the semi-finals. Now we go back and prepare for the do-or-die clash that will determine whether we make the finals. Physically and mentally, I believe we are ready. With such a good run in our two games, morale is high in the camp,” Ngoni said.

Meanwhile, in the girls’ category, St Joseph Girls Kitale from Rift Valley pulled off a stunning 25-17 win over Nyanza Region’s Kadika Girls in a pulsating Pool B clash.

Kadika, who had started their campaign on a high after a 21-15 triumph over Moi Forces Academy Girls from the Coast Region, failed to replicate their earlier performance.

As time progresses, the games become more intense as teams fight for the much-coveted spot in the 2025 KSSSA handball finals.
