Kenya’s elite volleyball players vie for national glory in playoffs
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has officially scheduled the playoffs to determine the national volleyball club champions for both men and women.
These eagerly anticipated playoffs are set to take place from the second to the fourth of October at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani in Nairobi.
In a memo addressed to media outlets and signed by the National Sports Organizing Secretary, John Oronje, the playoffs are confirmed to feature four teams in both the men’s and women’s categories.
In the men’s division, General Service Unit (GSU) is gearing up to defend the title they clinched last season at Nyayo National Stadium. Their triumph involved a thrilling 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)
. This time around, GSU faces formidable opponents in the shape of the Dockers (KPA), Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), and a resurgent Prisons Kenya team. All three challengers are well-prepared to potentially upset the para-military side’s title defense.
Turning to the women’s category, Paul Gitau’s Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) is determined to maintain their grip on the National crown.
Reigning Africa club champions, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), have their sights set on this domestic title, which they last secured 17 years ago in 2006.
Japheth Munala’s squad boasts an impressive lineup of talents, including national team veteran Edith Wisa, who captains the team, and Kenya’s skipper, Mercy Moim.
However, KCB acknowledges the formidable challenge ahead, not only from KPC but also from former champions Kenya Prisons, who have the potential to pose a serious threat. Completing the women’s four-team category is the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) team.
With this exciting announcement, all eyes are now fixed on the dates from October 2 TO 4 at Kasarani. Volleyball enthusiasts eagerly await to see who will emerge as the supreme force in Kenya’s volleyball scene and secure the coveted ticket to represent the nation in African competitions in the upcoming season.
