Kenyan women’s basketball team seals FIBA semis berth
By Luke Oluoch, December 7, 2025Kenya’s women’s 3×3 basketball team has kept the dream of the elusive cup alive after qualifying for the FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup 2025 on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Kenya earned two wins on the second day of the ongoing African Nations Game in Madagascar to punch their tickets to the final four teams.
Following a split result in their opener loss against Rwanda, the 2023 Africa Cup champs came firing on all cylinders on Saturday, December 6, 2025, earning convincing victories over Comoros and Botswana.
Standout results
Maryann Wanjiku was at the forefront of their 21-13 win over Comoros, putting up 9 points and 5 rebounds. Mashar Ooko held it down for Kenya in their second win against Botswana, grabbing a whopping 11 rebounds and chipping in 4 points as well.
The Kenya team, under the tutelage of Sylvia Kamau and Zadock Adika, is seeded as the No. 3 team in the women’s draw. They boast an impressive record, including winning the title in 2023 and earning bronze in 2024.
Semi’s fixtures
In the semifinals, Kenya, however, faces a tough test against the host, Madagascar, who remains unbeaten in all their group matches.
The winner of the clash will face off against the winner of the second semifinal, pitting Rwanda against North African giants Egypt.

Other than Wanjiku, the impressive and experienced Christine Akinyi and Ashley Minayo, who hails from the Zetech Sparks ladies basketball team, make up the remaining contingent of the Ladies Team.
The competition, which acts as the roadway for the 2028 global basketball games in Los Angeles, will conclude with the winners in the male and female categories being crowned this Sunday, December 7, 2025.
