Kenyan trio to officiate Friday’s AFCON 2025 clash
Three Kenyan match officials are set to run the show as the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) games continue this Friday, December 26, 2025, in Morocco.
The team, led by centre referee Peter Kamaku, Gilbert Cheruiyot, and Stephen Yiembe, will officiate the group B tie pitting Angola against Zimbabwe starting at 3:30 pm at the Stade de Marrakech.
Kamaku will serve as the centre referee, with Cheruiyot as the first assistant referee and Yiembe as the second assistant referee in the day’s early kickoff.

The three are part of the match officials doing duty at the ongoing AFCON games after being selected in a pool of referees for the 2025 edition.
The three were selected, each in their individual area of expertise, with Kamaku, who has overseen several high-profile tournaments, including the 2019 U17 World Cup, AFCON, and CAF Champions League games, among the referees.
Previous assignment
Stephen Yiembe and Gilbert Cheruiyot were selected as assistant referees, with Dickens Mimisa selected among the Video Assistant Referees (VAR) officials for the tournament.
Prior to today’s game, Kamaku served as the fourth official in this year’s edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, in the South Africa vs. Angola match, which ended 2–1 in favour of South Africa.
The Kenyans will do with the assistance of officials from the host country, Morocco, and Sudan’s Abdulaziz Yasir. who will control the proceedings for the control rooms of VAR as the lead official and his assistant
