Anxiety has gripped Kenyan football fans after the Harambee Stars-Zambia match was missing on the Confederation of African Football official ticketing portal on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Possible sanctions against Kenya’s football governing body, the Football Kenya Federation, were predicted after a major security concern occurred on Sunday, August 10, 2025, during Kenya’s third outing in Group A of the 2024 African Nations Championship against Morocco at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Hundreds of impatient fans forced their way through to Kasarani after evading ticket verification and security checking points at the facility, contrary to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) guidelines regarding CHAN 2024.

After stunning Morocco 1-0 to take control of Group A with 7 points in three matches, Harambee Stars were set to face the Chipolopolo of Zambia in their last match of the pool on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Kasarani Stadium, hoping to seal their quarterfinal berth.

The missing ticketing information for the Zambia tie follows FKF being hit with hefty penalties by CAF after similar security lapses during Harambee Stars’ opening CHAN 2024 Group A clash against DR Congo at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

Other scheduled matches, for instance, the Morocco-Zambia fixture slated for Thursday, August 15, 2025, at the Nyayo National Stadium, have ticketing information updated on the CAF portal.

Previous fines

In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, CAF fined FKF a total of Ksh 2.5 million (USD 20,000) and cautioned that further breaches of its strict tournament protocols could attract harsher sanctions.

According to a CAF security officer’s report, FKF violated Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code as well as multiple stadium safety rules. The high-tension match, won 1-0 by Kenya, was marred by a stampede at Gate 11, fans gaining access to restricted Public Security Areas, and a motorcycle weaving dangerously through crowds. FKF are expected to settle all fines within 60 days.

Local Organising Committee chair Nicholas Musonye had previously warned of disciplinary measures if CAF regulations were ignored, urging fans to maintain order and respect safety rules.
