The Kenya U18 boys and girls teams continued with their impressive performance at the ongoing International School Sports Federation (ISF) World Cup in Dalian, China.

Few days after thrashing Germany 1-0 in their opener, Kenya U18 girls registered yet another pulsating show, beating England 2-1 in their second group game to make it two wins in two games.

The boys, who beat Benin 2-1 their opening round also grabbed maximum points following a 4-2 victors against Taipei in their second outing at the Souwuyan Stadium.

This is the first time Kenya is competing in this global schools U18 tourney which has attracted 1,350 participants from 33 countries from across the continents.

The Boys team that is under the tutelage of St Anthony Kitale coach Peter Mayoyo, didn’t have it any easier.They have, however, managed to contain Benin and now plan to face Chinese-Taipei who are likely to enjoy home support. Also in the group are Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games silver medalists Amus College from Uganda.

Kenya faces Amus their final game of the group. The neighbours leads the group following their 7-2 win over Chinese-Taipei 7-2.

Former Harambee Stars midfielder Fred Serenge is incharge of the girls’ team.

Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba had been fronted to take care of the girls team but relinquished the position for a CAF A elite training camp in Riyadh Saudi Arabia last week.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba expressed his delight following the stellar performance from the Kenyan teams who majorly knitted with Talanta Hela players.

“We are delighted that both Kenyan teams are products of the Talanta Hela national talent pipeline, our deliberate, intentional and structured flagship curated to identify, nurture and monetise talents across all sports and creatives,” said Ababu Namwamba.

The Kenyan girls are in Group D of the tournament alongside Germany, Uganda, England and Ghana while the boys are in Group G together with Benin, Uganda and Taipei.

The first edition of the championship was held in Rabat Morocco last year with France and China emerging victorious in boys and girls categories respectively.

The championship attracted 37 boys teams, 19 girls teams and 33 countries.
