Kenya targets 100m global viewership for the Safari Rally

The 2024 Kenyan leg of the World Rally Championships is gathering steam as count down for this year’s edition begins.

Local Organising Committee is targeting to hit a remarkable 100m in global broadcast viewership. The 2023 Safari rally managed to attract an astonishing 80m viewership.

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Ababu Namwamba on Wednesday set the ball rolling by formerly unveiling the core team that will ensure the delivery of a superb and memorable event once again. The team is led by legendary Kenyan Rally driver Jim Kahumbura who serves as the event director.

“We have selected a great team that includes experienced and young officials for this important event. The Safari Rally has an immense impact on the Kenyan heritage and we there we pride ourselves as a nation this this championship. I would like the team to harmoniously work together and create an atmosphere for fellow countrymen and women so that they can sample the taste of the rally,” said Namwamba.

A significant shift takes place at the Safari Rally Kenya with a return to a more traditional 28-31 March date, having been staged in June in the latest editions.

The change is anticipated to take the Safari Rally to higher notch in terms of vigor due to the Easter Holidays which means more spectators would make it to Naivasha get lifetime ebullience of the iconic championships.

This year’s Safari Rally could also see a change venue for the finish point and award ceremony. Deliberations are ongoing to have the conclusion of the championship at Hells Gate.

Previously, presentation of the awards been done at at the Kenya Wildlife Service Training School which serves as the nerve centre.

The Kenyan leg of the WRC will be the third on the calendar after Rallye Monte -Carlo in Monaco (25 -28 January) and Rally Sweden (15-28 February).
