Kenya Simbas unveil 28-man squad for 2027 RWC Qualifiers in Uganda
By Kenneth Mwenda, July 1, 2025Kenya Simbas head coach Jerome Paarwater has announced the 28-man squad that will travel to Uganda for the 2027 Rugby World Cup Qualifiers.
Before the squad was named on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the team had spent a month in South Africa at a high-performance training camp. During that time, they played nine matches against various teams.
“The boys are looking sharp and ready for the qualifiers in Uganda. We’re happy that no one has picked up any serious injuries,” said Paarwater.
He also noted that the trip to South Africa helped the players grow closer as a team, which will improve how they play together on and off the pitch.
Four new players have been called up to the squad: Vincent Mwikhali, Patrick Sabatia, David Bunduki and Samuel Ovwamu. All four impressed the coaches during the South Africa camp and earned their spots. Returning to the team are Thomas Okeyo, Samuel Asati, Jone Kubu and John Okoth.
“We’re confident in the group we’ve chosen. These are the best players available to us at the moment, and the new faces will bring fresh energy to the team,” said team manager Jimmy Mnene.
The Simbas will start their campaign with a knockout match against Uganda on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. If they win, they will face either Zimbabwe or Morocco on 13th July. All games will take place at the Mandela National Stadium.
