Kenya Police FC dismiss remarks attributed to coach ahead of crucial FKF PL duels
By William Muthama, June 5, 2025Kenya Police FC have dismissed claims that their head coach, Etienne Ndayiragije, made provocative remarks ahead of the team’s final two Football Kenya Federation Premier League fixtures against Shabana FC and Gor Mahia.
In an official statement released on Thursday, June 5, 2025, the club termed several quotes circulating online and attributed to Ndayiragije as entirely false, misleading, and appearing intended to cause unnecessary distraction and discontent.
Clarification
Social media had been awash with bold statements purportedly made by the coach, suggesting Kenya Police FC had already sealed the league title and undermining Gor Mahia’s chances. However, the club said no such comments were ever made.
“We wish to clarify that coach Ndayiragije has not granted any interviews to any media outlet,” the club said. “The statements attributed to him are entirely false, misleading, and appear intended to cause unnecessary distraction and discontent.”
The club also called on media houses and content creators to practice due diligence when reporting, especially in high-stakes moments like the FKF Premier League title run-in.
“We urge all media practitioners and platforms to uphold the principles of responsible journalism by verifying information before publication,” the statement read. “Spreading unverified or fabricated content undermines the profession’s integrity and misinforms the public.”
The Kenya Police-backed side emphasized that such misinformation, especially in competitive periods, risks stirring tension among fans and teams alike.
Eyes on prize
With two matches remaining, Kenya Police FC sit at the top of the FKF Premier League table and needs just one point to secure their first-ever league title.
The club made it clear that the team’s attention is firmly on the field and not on the online noise.
“We remain fully focused on our preparations, and we’re committed to delivering our best performance in the final two matches of the season,” the statement concluded.
Police’s next fixture is against Shabana FC, followed by a potential title-deciding clash with Gor Mahia.
