Kenya Police FC brace for Kagame Cup showdown

By , August 31, 2025

Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions Kenya Police FC are gearing up for a major test as they head to Tanzania for the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup.

The regional tournament, scheduled from September 2 to 15 in Dar es Salaam, will feature 12 elite teams and serve as a crucial pre-season build-up for the law enforcers ahead of their historic CAF Champions League debut later this year.

Group stage

Kenya Police confirmed their participation in a statement by CECAFA, placing them in Group A alongside Singida Big Stars of Tanzania, Garde-Cotes FC of Djibouti, and Ethiopia Coffee FC.

Their excitement was echoed in a post on X dated August 31, declaring, “Tanzania, here we come.”

The draw promises fierce contests with other regional giants such as Uganda’s Vipers SC, Rwanda’s APR FC, Burundi’s Aigle Noir, and South Sudan’s El Merriekh SC Bentiu.

Last year’s edition saw Zambia’s Red Arrows edge APR FC to clinch the title, while Gor Mahia failed to progress beyond the group stage. Kenya Police are determined to rewrite that script and cement their status as one of East Africa’s top clubs.

Balancing transfers

The build-up has been marked by significant squad changes. Star forward Mohammed Bajaber, who was instrumental in their FKF Premier League triumph, sealed a move to Simba SC earlier this month.

The club bid him farewell on August 12, praising his “truly memorable” contribution. Striker David Irishura and seasoned midfielder Francis Kahata also exited, leaving gaps in the squad.

However, the law enforcers have responded with targeted signings aimed at strengthening their depth ahead of the demanding season. Their technical bench believes the squad has what it takes to compete against the region’s best and transition smoothly into continental football later this year.

Eye on history

For Kenya Police, the Kagame Cup is more than a tournament—it is a chance to measure themselves against established powerhouses while fine-tuning tactics before their Champions League bow. With morale high and the squad keen to impress, the blue-clad officers head to Dar es Salaam intent on making history and flying the Kenyan flag high.
