Kenya Police leave it late to deny AFC Leopards first win

Kenya Police secured a late equalizer to salvage a 2-2 draw against AFC Leopards, denying them their first win in the 2023/24 FKF Premier League match held at Moi Kasarani Stadium.

Both teams entered the match without a league victory in the opening three rounds, having each suffered a loss and recorded two draws.

AFC Leopards struggles

AFC Leopards, in particular, had struggled to find the back of the net this season, adding pressure to head Coach Tom Juma.

With the draw, AFC Leopards and Kenya Police remained winless in the league after four rounds of the campaign.

AFC Leopards welcomed back Musa Oundo, while Clifton Miheso earned his first start of the season for Ingwe in the match.

The Leopards conceded an early goal just four minutes into the game when Clinton Kinanga set up Kenneth Muguna for a close-range strike.

However, Ingwe managed to equalize in the 13th minute. Miheso delivered a precise ball from a free-kick, allowing Brian Yakhama to rise and head in the team’s first goal of the season, levelling the score at 1-1.

AFC Leopards go ahead

The score remained unchanged as the teams headed into halftime with the score tied at 1-1. In the second half, both sides continued to fight for an advantage, and it was AFC Leopards who struck first in the half.

In the 57th minute, Cliff Nyakeya was fouled in a dangerous area, resulting in a penalty awarded by the referee. Nyakeya stepped up and successfully beat the Police goalkeeper, giving AFC Leopards a 2-1 lead.

As the game extended beyond the 90th minute into stoppage time, AFC Leopards appeared to be on the verge of securing their first win of the season.

However, Kenya Police had other plans. David Okoth set up South Sudanese player Rashid Toha, who found the net, securing a 2-2 draw for Kenya Police in the 90 +3 minute.
