Kenya Legends secured a commanding 69-18 aggregate victory over Uganda to clinch the Legends Cup at RFUEA Grounds.

In the second leg of the competition, they secured a 31-12 win, building on their impressive 38-6 triumph in the initial encounter held in Uganda.

However, Uganda faced an early setback when Timothy Mudoola had to exit the game due to injury, just seven minutes into the match.

Kenya made their initial incursion into Uganda’s 22 in the eighth minute, initially losing possession.

Nevertheless, Uganda’s poor clearance landed the ball in Lavin Asego’s hands, igniting an attack down the left side. Andrew Amonde then passed to Oliver Mang’eni, who sprinted over to score the opening try. Asego successfully converted the try, granting Kenya a 7-0 lead.

The score remained unchanged until the 35th minute when Kenya capitalized on a turnover. Uganda believed there was an infringement, but Collins Injera seized the opportunity, quickly grabbing the ball and sprinting ahead. He then passed to Mang’eni, who subsequently found Victor Sudi. Injera scored from the ruck, and Asego successfully converted the try, extending Kenya’s lead to 14-0.

Eddie Omondi added Kenya’s third try, touching down in the left corner after a powerful carry, increasing the score to 19-0 after a missed conversion attempt. Despite Uganda’s late efforts, they struggled to maintain possession near Kenya’s try-line, and Kenya maintained their 19-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second half began with Kenya losing Jay Williams to injury as he attempted a step.

Kenya Legends quell UG

In the 48th minute, Uganda managed to break through when former 7s captain Michael Wokorach received the ball off a quick tap and scored their first try.

Uganda continued to fight back, securing their second try from a scrum, narrowing the scoreline to 19-12. This try served as a wake-up call for Kenya, who responded immediately with a try by George Mbaye at the other end, extending their lead to 24-10.

Kenya sealed their victory when a perfectly executed inside pass by Asego found Sudi charging forward, eluding his marker, and scoring under the posts for a try. Tito Oduk successfully converted the try.

Kenya had an opportunity to score another try, but Uganda managed to regain possession.
