KENFOCA calls out hooliganism, mistreatment of Kenyan coaches

The Kenya National Coaches Association (KENFOCA) has called for fair treatment of tacticians in Kenyan football circles.

KENFOCA’s call comes days after Tusker head coach Robert Matano was confronted by fans after a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match in Kasarani. Matano engaged with the furious fans, who wanted an explanation for why the team had not posted impressive results.

Consequently, KENFOCA, in a letter signed by its Secretary-General, has highlighted issues they want addressed.

“One of our core objectives is to represent the interests of the members to the FKF, clubs, and all other stakeholders involved in the game of football in Kenya.

“As KENFOCA, we have learned with a lot of concern about the following issues: mistreatment of our members by the clubs, manhandling of our members by fans, unprocedural sacking of our members, and hooliganic attacks on our members,” KENFOCA said.

KENFOCA’s demands

The association highlighted various mistreatments they say their members have been subjected to and also explained what actions needed to be taken.

“As KENFOCA, we would like to state the following: we urge the clubs to respect the contracts signed by them and the coaches, and that every coach deserves respect from clubs, FKF officials, fans, and other quarters.

“That FKF take severe action against both the clubs and their fans who have been engaged in manhandling, hooliganism, and mistreatment of the coaches,” it added.

One of the issues raised by the coach’s body is what they called unfair dismissal. This call comes after Kenya Police parted ways with Francis Baraza as their head coach.

“FKF to enforce the FIFA laws and regulations and ensure clubs pay the coaches in full whose contracts have been terminated unprocedural,” it continued.

KENFOCA’s call

KENFOCA urged their members to remain calm as they seek solutions to the problems raised.
“We therefore wish to ask our members to remain calm as a quick solution is sourced.

“As the leadership of KENFOCA, which is a stakeholder in football in Kenya, we assure our members that we are making concerted efforts to see that these matters are brought to rest without negatively affecting our members,” it concluded.
