KCB Rugby Club appoint Andrew Amonde interim coach ahead of Kabeberi 7s
By Joel Masibo, September 6, 2025Kenya Rugby Union giants KCB RC have named former Kenya 7s captain Andrew Amonde as the side’s interim head coach, hours to the 2025 Kabeberi 7s at the RFUEA Grounds on Saturday, September 6, to Sunday, September 7, 2025.
Confirming the development on Friday evening, September 5, 2025, the Bankers said the appointment comes after the club’s interim head coach Dennis Mwanja stepped aside following his two-week suspension by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) in his capacity as Lionesses coach.
“Our interim head coach Dennis Mwanja has stepped aside from his role following his suspension by the Kenya Rugby Union, on a matter that is currently under review by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports. Andrew Amonde will take over on an interim basis. We believe in the rule of law and therefore, it is important to allow due process to take its course,” KCB announced through their official pages.
Meanwhile, KCB Rugby Club has unveiled the travelling squad for the Kabeberi Sevens. The bankers have assembled a strong 14-man squad, blending seasoned campaigners with promising young talents as they target dominance in the sevens circuit.

Following the release of the pools at the Embu 7s, in Division One, KCB RFC, current circuit leaders, are grouped in Pool A with Nakuru RFC, Mean Machine and Invitees Mombasa RFC.
Pool B features Embu Tournament winners Strathmore Leos, Kenya Harlequins, Hosts Mwamba RFC and invited Impala RFC.
Pool C is led by Varsity sides, MMUST, Daystar Falcons, Catholic Monks and Homeboyz RFC, whilst Pool D will see Menengai Oilers take on rivals, Kabras Sugar, with Embu RFC and the Invited team, Kisumu RFC.
Kabeberi Sevens is a National Sevens circuit leg of the Kenya Rugby Union. The tournament was named after George Mwangi Kabeberi, who passed away on July 10, 1986. George was a former Mwamba RFC player. Mwamba RFC are the host of this tournament.
