KCB Rugby claimed their 10th Impala Floodlit title after an intense 25-23 victory in extra time against Nondies at the Impala Club.

In a match that lasted 104 minutes, KCB needed a single try and managed to maintain a two-point lead to secure their record 10th Impala Floodlit title.

However, it was far from an easy win, as Nondescripts put up a resilient performance and pushed the final into extra time.

KCB initially seemed to have a dream start when Peter Kilonzo scored a try after four minutes of play, with Darwin Mukizda successfully converting, giving them a 7-0 lead.

Nondies, undaunted, took the game to KCB and notched their first points with a penalty kicked by Calvin Sheunda, bringing the score to 7-3 by the 23rd minute.

The contest became more intense as both teams had players sent to the sin bin; Brian Munyali for KCB and Nondies’ captain Steve Odhiambo, both for different offences.

The match remained closely contested, with Sheunda adding another penalty on the 36th-minute mark, reducing the score to 7-6 at halftime.

After the restart, Mukidza and Sheunda traded penalties, and the outcome hung in the balance.

KCB gain advantage

KCB appeared to gain an edge with two more Mukidza penalties, making it 16-9, but Sheunda converted Charles Odhiambo’s try to level the score at 16-16 by full time.

KCB entered extra time with renewed determination, securing a 22-16 lead at the end of the first extra time period with two more Mukidza penalties.

Another Mukidza penalty extended their lead to 25-16, but Nyaenya Moseti scored and converted his try, making it 25-23 with little time remaining.

In the end, KCB benefited from a Nondies mistake in the dying moments, as Mukidza kicked the ball into touch, ensuring their 10th title.
