Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja has called for the establishment of fan zones and the tightening of stadium security measures as part of efforts to address breaches similar to those witnessed during the recent Harambee Stars match against Morocco.

Speaking after touring Kasarani Sports Complex alongside Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Kanja participated in a comprehensive security review and assessment of the facility.

The Inspector General noted that the breaches observed so far were unacceptably frequent and promised a more robust security strategy.

He proposed the creation of Fan Zone areas at strategic locations to help reduce unnecessary fan movement during matches. He also stressed the importance of streamlining ticketing and verification processes to ensure that only authorised fans access the stadium.

“For his part, the IG noted that the breaches observed so far were unacceptably frequent and promised a more robust security strategy. He also proposed Fan Zone areas at strategic locations to reduce unnecessary fan movement while emphasising the need to streamline ticketing and verification processes.” Kanja suggested

CS Mvurya, who was in the company of the IG, warned that Kenya risked facing a ban if further violations occurred, particularly if fans attempted to gain unauthorised access to stadiums.

He urged all stakeholders, including ticketing agents, security personnel, and stewards, to enhance their performance at every level.

“The CS acknowledged that Kenya faced the risk of a ban if further violations occurred, particularly if fans attempted to access the stadium illegally. He urged all stakeholders, ticketing agents, security personnel, and stewards to improve their performance at all levels.” Mvurya said.

During the tour, the CS, IG, CHAN Head of Security Dr Christian Emeruwa, and other football and security officials discussed the need to comply fully with mandatory security protocols for international matches.

After the tour, NPS has stated that the IG proceeded to the General service Unit headquarters for further briefings and detailed analysis of the situation at Kasarani Stadium.
