Kamau offers brutal assessment of Slumboys’ capitulation against Bidco
By Luke Oluoch, April 21, 2025Mathare United tactician John Kamau has offered his blunt assessment of his team’s 2-0 loss to Bidco United on Sunday, April 20, in a match week 27 tie in Machakos County Stadium.
Speaking to the club’s media site afterwards, Kamau decried lapses in concentration, especially during crucial moments of transition.
“We were a shadow of ourselves from the two moments that we conceded. We could have handled the situation better. There was that instance of a pass from 60 yards that we could have handled better. We also conceded while in possession, and this is something we have a principle that guides us on that aspect,” Kamau noted.
The trainer, however, sought to shift focus away from the outcome, stating that they intend to revert to winning ways as quickly as possible.
He maintained that his team can rewrite a fresh chapter by building on their second-half performance during the loss.
“Looking at our second half, we can take plenty from it. We proved dominant, but the most important thing is to work on our final third and see if we can score goals,” he added.

With less than seven games to wrap the season up, Kamau is predicting a tense final round of games as teams step up the battle to survive the chop from the league.
“As I said, it will be a dogfight. I have said so, and you could see it in the game. Everything we do, the focus is to remain in the Kenya Premier League (KPL), and then from there we will build up and address individual principles of our game afterwards,” he said.
Mathare maintained its spot at tenth on the log. The team remains on course to survive the drop after fellow relegation candidates Murang’a Seal and FC Talanta failed to record a win in their respective week 27 games.
Talanta succumbed to a 4-2 hiding at high-riding Shabana FC in Gusii Stadium, while struggling Muranga Seals could only manage a draw against Kariobangi Sharks.
The seasoned trainer maintains that his experience with stints spanning over 10 years while in charge of different KPL sides will be crucial to conjuring up an escape route.
“I have been in this league for a decade now, and I know what it entails. In most cases, if you get to 35 points, it is very difficult to be relegated,” he added.
