Kakamega Homeboyz seek to slow down Police FC as Gor hope for back-to-back wins against Kariobangi Sharks

Kenya Police’s five game winning run will come under severe test when they take on Kakamega Homeboyz in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League fixture at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday.

After a poor start to the season which saw the law enforcers fire coaches Salim Babu and Anthony Kimani, the team has seen a tremendous resurgence under new Burundian coach Etienne Ndayiragije.

Since his arrival after leaving the role of Burundi national team, Ndayiragije has masterminded five straight league wins, an outcome that has seen Police jump to third in the 18-team league table with 23 points from 13 matches. Infact they are now one point behind leaders KCB and second-placed Tusker, who are tied on 23 points.

His first game in charge saw Police defeat Nairobi City Stars 3-1, he then edged out Mara Sugar 1-0, defeated Bidco United 3-0, gunned down reigning champions Gor Mahia 1-0 and the 1-0 win against FC Talanta on Wednesday.

His winning run will face scrutiny when they face a Homeboyz side, who have been blowing hot and cold this season. Abana Beingo are currently sitting 14th with 15 points from 14 matches.

Last season, Police sealed a double over Homeboyz with the first round tie ending in a 3-0 win before they won the second fixture 2-1. In the previous campaign, it was Homeboyz, who won the first meeting 1-0 but Police recovered to make amends in the second round fixture by registering a similar result.

In the 2022 season, Homeboyz emerged 1-0 winners in the first meeting before the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw. According to Ndayiragije Police will face a stun test against Homeboyz.

“I predict a very tough game against Homeboyz, they have improved lately and we will have to be at our best to beat them,” said Ndayiragije ahead of the game.

On Saturday, Tusker will be keen to make it two wins out of two when they face Posta Rangers, who are currently languishing at the bottom of the table with 11 points from 13 matches.

The Brewers will head into the game basking from their 2-1 win against Bidco United. The win against Bidco came after they had suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat against AFC Leopards.

On Sunday, all eyes will be on champions Gor Mahia, who will entertain Kariobangi Sharks at Kenyatta Stadium. After going for three matches without a win, Gor Mahia rediscovered their form to fire three goals past Ulinzi Stars on Wednesday and revive their hopes of retaining the title.

Gor Mahia are now three points away from the top of the table and a win against Sharks could be a good result as they strive to win a third straight title. Austin Odhiambo, who was named man of the match against Ulinzi Stars, will be relied on once again for a win, assisted by Rooney Onyango, who scored the second goal against the Soldiers.

Elsewhere, AFC Leopards will host Bandari at Dandora Stadium seeking to bounce back to winning ways. Ingwe’s last fixture saw them draw 1-1 against Sofapaka.
