Kakamega Homeboyz founder and financier Cleophas “Toto” Shimanyula has been known as a crusader of efficiency in coaching duties and takes no prisoners in what he perceives as under-performance or indiscipline in the dug-out.

Yesterday, Shimanyula replicated his non-nonsense stance when he reportedly fired the current coach John Baraza over alleged presiding over indifferent results.

Former AFC Leopards trainer Edward Manoah has taken over on an interim basis and will be deputized by John Waw.

Shimanyula does not compromise on disciplinary issues and is on record of firing former Head Coach Bernard Mwalala, who is now at Ulinzi Stars, over alleged unbecoming conduct.

Parted ways
Forthwith, as from yesterday in a Twitter message, Homeboyzaid said, “We wish to announce that we have parted ways with our Head Coach John Baraza and his assistant Paul Okidi for failing to give us the results we need. Manoah (Edward) and Waw (John) will serve the club temporarily,’’

Apparently, Shimanyula’s bare-knuckled decision was informed by the team groping in the dark in the top-flight league despite signing some of the best players the country can offer.

Team’s sustenance
The sacking of Baraza, who has previously handled Sofapaka, comes hot in the wake of Homeboy’s 1-0 loss to Bandari last weekend in a result which saw Abana Beingo drift further towards midway of the league even as Shimanyula continues pumping millions towards the team’s sustenance.

“Baraza’s sacking was bound to happen. The boss (read Shimanyula) has not been happy with the performance of the team lately and this is one man who has been having almost sleepless nights trying to make the team compete effectively with the experienced lot in the team,” said a source within the team.

It added: “Homeboyz are placed in eighth position and their performance is a mockery of a team that almost won the 2022/23 season. A solution had to be found pretty fast and don’t be surprised at the ongoing events the club.”

During Mwalala’s sacking, it was deemed a chapter closed for the retired Kenyan international as he parted ways with Homeboyz.

The shocking move came after Shimanyula cited discipline issues. “After wide consultations, we have opted to part ways with Coach Bernard Mwalala and the entire technical bench,” stated the chairman then.

“The action has not been taken because of performance, but because of disciplinary issues. We have been lenient for some time but nothing had changed and so we decided to part ways. It was necessary because the team has to move forward, so if we let negative actions be introduced then the team will lose,” said Shimanyula.
