Judith Mbai’s journey across Kenya’s football landscape

By , July 22, 2024

Judith Mbai’s football journey began during her primary school days at St. Mary’s Primary School in Tala.

It was there that she discovered her talent and passion for football, setting her on a path that would profoundly shape her life around the sport.

From those early days, she has been dedicated to pursuing her love for the game, despite facing numerous challenges along the way.

Reflecting on her journey, Judith acknowledges the difficulties she has encountered but remains grateful for how far she has come.

“Though there have been many challenges, I thank God I have made it to where I am today,” she told People Sport, her tone reflecting resilience and gratitude.

Judith’s career has seen her play for three women’s soccer teams. She started with Tala Starlets, her hometown team, where she honed her skills and developed her love for the game.

From there, she moved on to Ukunda Starlets in Kwale County, a team that played in Division 1 during the 2021-2022 season. Her journey has now brought her to Macmillan Queens in Nairobi, where she currently plays in the National Super League (NSL).

As Kenya prepares for the FifaU-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic starting in October, Judith revealed that women’s football in the country is on the right trajectory compared to previous years.

“Women’s football is rapidly growing, though challenges remain. From where I started compared to now, women’s soccer has grown significantly,” she observed.

Looking ahead, Judith’s aspirations are clear and ambitious. Her ultimate dream is to play for the national team, the Harambee Starlets, and represent Kenya on the international stage.

“I aspire to one day play for our national team and represent my country internationally, as that has been my soccer dream since I started my career,” she shared.
