Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu welcomed at Reims with guard of honour

Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu has embarked on an exciting new chapter in his career after joining French Ligue 1 club Stade de Reims.

The talented defender completed a high-profile 1.8 Billion move to the club over the weekend, and he has wasted no time in joining the team for a training session in Spain.

As Okumu and the other new signings arrived at the training camp, they were greeted with warm camaraderie from their teammates, who formed a guard of honor and playfully slapped their backs, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere for the newcomers.

Announcing their arrival, the club said: “New 🔴 & ⚪️ in town! Welcome guys.”

As part of the week-long training camp in Spain, Stade de Reims is set to play two friendly matches, providing Okumu and the team with valuable match preparation ahead of the upcoming Ligue 1 season.Okumu will be hoping to make his debut against Getafe on Wednesday in a pre-season friendly match.

Okumu’s journey in the world of football has been nothing short of remarkable. Having represented Chemelil Sugar, Free State Stars, and AFC Ann Arbor in his club career, the defender has proven his mettle and skill on various stages.

His impressive performances with AFC Ann Arbor in the 2018 season earned him recognition, leading to a move to the USL Championship side Real Monarchs in August 2018.

From there, he continued to shine, catching the eye of Swedish Allsvenskan club IF Elfsborg, where he made another impactful move in August 2019.

Now, with his move to French Ligue 1 club Stade de Reims, Okumu has reached new heights in his professional career. The club’s confidence in his abilities is evident, making him a key player to watch in the highly competitive league.

On the international stage, Okumu’s journey began with the Kenyan Under-21 and Under-23 teams before earning his debut with the senior national team in 2016.

His contributions to the Harambee Stars have been invaluable, and he continues to be a vital asset to the squad.
