There is hope in Kipchoge during the Olympic Games – Janeth Jepkosgei

By , March 5, 2024

Former world 800m champion Janeth Jepkosgei has asserted that there is hope for Eliud Kipchoge to perform successfully during the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

Kipchoge finished 10th in the Tokyo Marathon that was held on Sunday, casting doubt on his ability to compete at high levels. However, Jepkosgei maintains that there is still hope for the experienced long-distance runner.

“I am happy Eliud finished the race, which shows that he is still there and we still have hopes in him at the Olympics,” Jepkosgei told a local publication.

Jepkosgei maintained that Kipchoge did well in Tokyo, and given his past performances, he remains an inspiration to the upcoming athletes.

“He is the one showing the way to the young athletes. He finished well, 2:06 is not a bad time for Eliud because he is a great athlete,” she added.

Kipchoge’s reaction

After the dismal performance in Tokyo, Kipchoge conceded it was a bad day but chose to look forward by picking up lessons from the race.

“I can only say that sport is about good days and bad days. Unfortunately, today was a bad day for me. I want to congratulate all participants who reached the finish line, all pursuing their own goals and dreams.

“Thank you, Tokyo, and to all the fans around the world for all your love and support. We take the lessons of today for tomorrow’s build-up,” the Olympic marathon champion said.

Although the main focus now is on the Olympic Games, eyes will be on Kipchoge and how he will perform in the races before the Paris event.

The next major event is the Boston Marathon, which will come on April 15 before the London Marathon on April 21.

On September 29, the Berlin Marathon, where Kipchoge has made incredible history, will be held before the Chicago Marathon on October 13.

The final marathon event will be on November 3, when the New York race will be conducted.
