It’s all systems go for Eldoret City Marathon
Preparations for Eldoret City Marathon slated for this Sunday have been finalised and the route is already mapped out. The 42km race will start from the University of Eldoret and finish at TAC Centre in Eldoret town.
Race director Moses Tanui speaking after completion of route marking said that it is all systems go for the race. He wished all participants good luck as they compete for the prizes.
The race is one of the highest paying marathons in Africa where winners both men and women will pocket Sh3.5 million.
Double Boston Champion Tanui said the organisers will ensure the event attains global standards.
“We have gone around and marked the route. We are aware that the police have done their bit to ensure security will be top-notch on Sunday as well as identify optional routes to divert traffic from the venue,” he said.
Uasin Gishu Deputy County Commander Zacchaeus Ng’eno said that some parts of the roads will be closed to pave way for the event.
“We have briefed police commanders about Sunday’s activity thus security officers will be deployed along the route. We have also done recce on all the affected areas and we wish to assure the athletes and the general public of their security come Sunday,” said Ngeno. He said they will be closing some parts of the Uganda highway where motorists will be directed to alternative roads.
He said Eldoret-Iten road will be closed at the University of Eldoret junction from 5.30am.
The route from Western region Town to Nakuru and Nairobi through Eldoret town will be closed at Raiply to allow the event to go on smoothly, he noted.
The route from Kapsabet to Eldoret, he said, will be closed at Rivatex East Africa while the Nairobi Highway will be closed at Annex and motorists heading to Western Kenya from Nairobi and Nakuru can exit Eldoret through the Old Nairobi road.
