Indian girl Erica living her Tong-IL Moo-Do dream at 11th edition of Mombasa Open
Erica de Sequeira is one of the only two players from India who participated in the just concluded Mombasa Open International Tong-IL-Moo Do Championships at the coastal city.
The 13-year-old is already a world-beater but she has laid bare her ambitions to achieve more in the sport that she has embraced at a tender age.
On Monday evening, Sequeira trounced Kenya’s Eunice Mwende in sparring category for the under-18 years to grab a first gold medal on her name and her nation India at the highly competitive tournament staged at the Agha Khan Academy, Mombasa.
“The game was good although it was tough, the Kenyan players were great but I managed to emerge victorious. I play a psychological game and I believe that nobody can defeat me and that helps me to win.”
The extra-ambitious teenager who won two gold medals and two bronzes in the last year’s edition reveals drawing immense inspiration from her coach Raunak Singh and her eagerness to scale to great heights.
“My coach inspires me to play; he gives me motivation even when things are not looking so great. He pushes me so that I can achieve more in and out of the arena. I love Tong-IL Moo-Do because it is a mixed martial arts and one can use kicks and hands and other aspects of the game that are tabulated for winning. I want to be the best player in this game and I think Tong-IL Moo-Do has built me so far in my career and desire to accomplish more,” Sequeira told People Sport.
Having conquered at different events of Tong-IL Moo-Do, the youngster who is in grade eight in school back in India has a dream of one day showing her skills at the Olympics Games.
“Sure, it has been my dream to play at the Olympics. It will mean a lot to me and my family, I can’t even express that feeling of seeing myself participating in the Olympic Games, I just hope that one day I will fulfill this childhood dream.”
