Strathmore University are the 2023 winners of the 82 Cup Tournament held at the university’s Main Campus Sports Complex at Madaraka in Nairobi West last weekend.

The second edition of the tournament that was sponsored by Skyward Express and Tisap, saw the hosts beat Hike Sound 2-0 in a thrilling encounter to pocket the winners prize money of Sh 100,000 while the Runners-Up Hike Sound went home with Sh 50,000 and third placed side BC Athletic earned Sh 30,000. The 82 Sports will be having tournaments to nurture talents and promote playing for green spaces.

Eight teams took part in the two day tourney and it is on a knockout basis. The last edition was held in Dandora-Eastlands where home team Dandora Youth were crowned the Champions. In another months time in Umoja (Eastlands), the third edition will be on.

Meanwhile, leaders Shabana FC had a breather this weekend but still lead by a commanding 54 points as they seek to claim the National Super League 2022/23 title.

‘Tore Bobe’ have played 24 matches thus far and have won 17 games in the campaign with an impressive +28 goal difference. The Sammy Okoth led team has had their best campaign so far with only four losses in the ongoing season with eight games left for the Gusii based side to find out their fate.

Meanwhile the troubles at Kibera Black Stars FC persisted once again following their 1-0 loss away to Coastal Heroes in a game played at Mbaraki Sports Complex. With the crucial win,Heroes are up to 12th in the table on 28 points after having difficulties of their own. However the Slum Boys are ninth on the log with 31 points despite earlier in the season enjoying a cruising lead at the top. The Black Stars have no win in the past five matches with four straight losses to their name to add to their disappointing season.

Elsewhere,Mara Sugar FC put in a fabulous performance Sunday at Awendo Green Stadium to smack visiting Darajani Gogo FC 3-0. The big win puts the sugar men up to fifth place with 40 points off 23 matches played thus. Francis Xavier’s men have now won 12 games in 23 played with three coming off the last five played. On the other hand,newbies Gogo Boys are in seventh place with 35 points off 24 matches played and have done well by all accounts in their maiden season.
