History and prize money ahead of Kenya’s David Munyua in Monday’s tie
By Luke Oluoch, December 21, 2025Kenya’s David Munyua is poised to make more history in his second-round match against Kevin Doets at the iconic Alexandra Palace in London.
After pulling off a stunning upset in the first round by defeating Mike de Decker, Munyua already guaranteed himself approximately Ksh 4.3 million.
The full-time veterinary officer from Kenya, who had never left Africa before travelling to London, stands to earn an additional amount if he advances past Doets in the second round.
Doets advanced after edging Matthew Dennant in a comeback victory in the first round.
PDC match formats
The 2025/26 PDC World Darts Championship features an expanded field of 128 players and an increased prize fund of 169 million for the tournament’s overall winner.
Matches are played in a knockout format of best-of-sets (with each set of best-of-five legs in the first and second rounds). The prize money accumulates as players progress through the rounds.
More History in the Making
Munyua’s first-round triumph made him the first Kenyan to compete and win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship.
The 30-year-old, who only started playing darts three years ago after a friend introduced him to the sport, is now in a position to become the most successful African player in a single tournament—surpassing South Africa’s Devon Petersen—if he defeats Doets.
Ahead of the clash, Munyua also received an invitation to Stamford Bridge, home of his favourite club, Chelsea FC.
Following his own win over Dennant, Doets described the upcoming match against Munyua as a ‘dream draw,‘ acknowledging that while Munyua is a strong player, he believes he has the edge.

“To be fair, I watched the game live yesterday, him and Mike,” Doets said. “Of course, if I won my game, I was expecting to play Mike in the second round. When David won, it actually gave me a bit of extra pressure.”
Great player
“Of course David is a great player, but in my mind I’m the better player. This is the type of game you want. This is the draw you want in the second round if you want to go further in the tournament.”
