Henry Meja opens scoring account for AFC Eskilstuna

Kenya forward Henry Meja scored his first goal for AFC Eskilstuna as they won 3-2 against Stocksund at Stockhagens IP 1 Stadium on Sunday.
The forward had endured a goal drought in the last nine matches, with his best performance being two assists last month.

He ended his drought during his 10th appearance in the league, requiring only 13 minutes to open the scoring for the side. Stocksund equalized nine minutes later through Jonathan Flensborg, making it 1-1.
Aleksandar Azizovic restored the lead in the 63rd minute, but the goal was canceled by John Henrik Lukas Lundström four minutes later.
Selwan Al-Jaberi netted the winning goal in the 74th minute. The match was Meja’s 10th appearance, in which he clocked 648 minutes for the club.
The player joined the club from AIK Fotboll on a loan deal alongside Francis Odhiambo, who also has a goal with the club.
Meja came up through the ranks of Green Commandos SC of the National Super League. With Lihrembe Arsenal FC, he won the 2018 and 2019 Cleophas Malala Super Cup, securing the Golden Boot Award in both editions of the tournament.
In January 2020, he signed a three-year contract with Tusker F.C. of the Kenya Premier League. He spurned interest from AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz for the promise of top-flight minutes and to play with his brother Sammy.
He scored his first goal for the club on December 13 2020 against Gor Mahia, coming off the bench to score the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory. He was named the Premier League and Tusker’s Player of the Month for January 2021 after tallying four goals and an assist for the month.
In September 2021, Swedish top-tier club AIK announced that they had signed Meja on a five-year deal, with his official arrival at the club in January 2022 at the opening of the transfer window. His contract was set to run through 1 September 2026.

In January 2023, Meja was loaned out to Norrby IF for the 2023 season while in March 2024, Meja joined AFC Eskilstuna on loan for the 2024 season.
In October 2020, Meja was named to Kenya’s provisional squad for the 2020 CECAFA U-20 Championship. He was called up to the senior national team for the first time in February 2021 and made his senior international debut on March 13, 2021 in a friendly against Sudan.
Later that year, he was named to the Kenya U23 team for the 2021 CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup in Ethiopia.
