Harambee Stars’ Boniface Muchiri was among the servicemen feted during the Kenya Defence Forces Day celebrations on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Moi Barracks in Eldoret.

Corporal Muchiri was honoured for excelling in football, serving as Ulinzi Stars FC captain and representing Kenya in the recently concluded African Nations Championship 2024. He was recognised for well representing the KDF and Kenya in football. His reward was received by his officer commanding, Major Amos Ouko, as he is on national duty in the Ivory Coast with Harambee Stars.

The latest honour comes shortly after the Ulinzi Stars captain was promoted in August 2025 from senior private to the rank of corporal as a recognition of his outstanding performance at the concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN), conferred by the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Major General Luka Kutto.

“We are very grateful for your commitment, hard work, and excellent performance while serving Kenya and, by extension, the KDF. We wish you success in future assignments and are confident you will continue to excel,” CDF General Kahariri congratulated Corporal Muchiri.

KDF Day celebration

Meanwhile, presided over by the Commander in Chief, President William Ruto, Kenyans paused to honour the bravery, sacrifice, and patriotism of the men and women in uniform as they marked their 14th KDF Day on Tuesday.

In a statement on the official X account on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, KDF shared a celebratory message to KDF soldiers who are the heartbeat of Kenya’s defence and the driving force behind national development. “We celebrate our soldiers, the heartbeat of our defence and the driving force behind national development. Happy KDF Day!” KDF wrote.

At the same time, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya launched the 2025 nationwide KDF recruitment exercise, pledging a zero-tolerance approach to corruption and affirming the government’s resolve to ensure a fair and transparent process.

Tuya described the annual drive as a crucial national effort to replenish KDF ranks, expand emerging units, and strengthen the country’s defence capabilities. She acknowledged that past recruitment exercises have occasionally attracted allegations of malpractice but noted that investigations had led to arrests and disciplinary action where wrongdoing was proven.

The CS clarified that most of the reported incidents involved fraudsters masquerading as KDF officers, urging Kenyans to be wary of such impostors.

“The recruitment exercise will strictly follow the Constitution, guaranteeing fairness, inclusivity, and representation from all 47 counties,” Hon. Tuya said.
