Harambee Starlets coach promises proactive approach against Cameroon

Harambee Starlets‘ Head Coach, Beldine Odemba, has unveiled her proactive strategy for the upcoming two-legged 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers against Cameroon.

The Starlets are gearing up for their matches, with their departure for Cameroon scheduled on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in preparation for the first leg clash set for Friday, September 22, 2023, in Douala.

The team is expected to return home on Sunday, September 24, 2023, ahead of the second leg match on September 26, 2023.

Coach Odemba recognizes the significance of securing away goals and has affirmed her intention to prioritize goal-scoring over a defensive approach.

“Our primary objective in Cameroon is to take a proactive stance, with a focus on goal-scoring rather than adopting a defensive strategy,” she revealed

Odemba also expressed confidence in the team’s progress, noting that they are eagerly awaiting the arrival of international players such as Mwanahalima Dogo, Jentrix Shikangwa, Esse Akida, and others.

These seasoned players are expected to bring their wealth of experience to the squad and help instill confidence in the new call-ups.

Harambee Starlets beat Police

In their recent warm-up match, the team secured a 1-0 victory against Kenya Police Bullets at Kasarani Annex.

If Harambee Starlets emerge as the aggregate winners of the two-legged qualifier, they will advance to the second round, where they will face either Gabon or Botswana.

This second-round fixture is scheduled between November 27 and December 5, 2023. The ultimate victor of the second round will earn automatic qualification for the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, which is set to be hosted in Morocco.
