Gusii FC whitewash Vihiga Bullets as Naivas FC outwit Dimba Patriots in NSL openers
By Joel Sang, September 16, 2023Gusii FC registered an impressive 5-1 win over Vihiga Bullets in their National Super League 2023/24 season-opening game on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
Bullets are in the second tier following their relegation from the Football Kenya Federation Premier League, and they suffered a huge defeat as they started their campaign.
Cyrus Oucho scored the opening goal for Gusii in the 26th minute, before Abel Nyantenga scored the second in the 29th minute.
Vincent Wanga scored the third in the 40th minute as Gusii took a commanding lead into the break.
Bullets would have claimed a goal in the early moments of the second half, but they could not convert a penalty that they were awarded.
However, Gusii scored the fourth goal when Mathew Tegisi, a second-half substitute, found the back of the net in the 48th minute.
Bullets managed to breach Gusii’s defensive line when they scored in the 76th minute through John Juma, before Adelbert Mogendi struck the fifth for the former.

Rainbow register debut win
NSL debutants Rainbow FC managed a slim 1-0 win over Darajani Gogo.
Tyron Kariuki scored the only goal in the game when he struck in the first half for Rainbow.
Meanwhile, SS Asad and Mully Children’s Family FC shared points following a 2-2 draw in their respective game.
Abdallah Mdeka scored the opener for Asad after the half-hour mark, but MCF pegged their opponents back with a goal from Norman Werunga five minutes after the break.
Asad reclaimed their lead in the 71st minute when Elmond Kasaya scored, but MCF ensured they would go home with a point with a stoppage-time goal by Anaba Mohamed.
Naivas overcome Dimba Patriots
Naivas FC were 3-2 winners over Dimba Patriots in a game played at the Wolves Den.
Dimba Patriots are plying their trade in the NSL after they bought Mwatate United’s slot in the competition. However, their campaign did not get off to the desired start after the defeat to Naivas.
Vincent Likare scored a brace, and the other goal for Naivas was scored by Brian Ouru, as they collected three points on the opening day.

Finally, Vihiga United conceded a 2-1 loss to Kajiado FC. Ayub Twaha and Llotsiro scored the goals for the winning side, while Godfrey Kaduka scored for United.
