Gor plot bitter fall for Nzoia
Wazito FC face what appears to to be a baptism by fire today when they engage Gor Mahia in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League midweek match at Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani.
The former moneybags have had an unsteady campaign in the season and their resolve to get out of the quagmire faces an acid test in the form of Gor who will be seeking to win and dislodge Nzoia Sugar from the top position.
Lying in the 16th position, Wazito have played 12 matches, winning two, drawing one and losing nine in statistics which do not make comfortable reading among their fans.
However, despite Gor being favourites on paper, the worst they can do is to underrate Wazito who subjected Post Rangers to a torrid time last weekend before forcing the Mailmen to a 1-1 draw.
Wazito did prove that they are not pushovers when they handed AFC Leopards a 2-1 defeat on January 14 and this is a stat Gor should ponder when engaging them in pursuit of an advantage over Nzoia Sugar.
Proven goal scorers
Wazito have proven goal scorers like Collins Okoth, Eneji Abubakar and Cliffe Oruko which is why Gor should be on full alert.
However, with the backing of the highly vocal supporters, Gor, who edged Tusker 2-1 in their latest fixture, should not have difficulty reaping maximum points and are expected to lean heavily on on-song striker Benson Omala and Sydney Ochieng’ for a positive result.
Tomorrow, Vihiga Bullets face a stern test against Bidco United at Mumias Sugar Complex ground from 3.00 pm.
Elsewhere, Bunyore Starlets’ 2-2 draw with Zetech Sparks resulted in a result that saw them drop to position five in the standings.
Starlets were rampant in the first half and it was least surprising when they struck through Maria Ambila and Achando scored in the 25th and 32nd minutes.
Zetech Sparks replied in the first four minutes of the second half with goals from Abukwe Puren and Mercy Kinuthia.
At the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Gaspo beat hosts Ulinzi Starlets 2-0 and in Thika, Kangemi Ladies suffered a 6-1 loss at the hands of third-placed Thika Queens.
