Gor Mahia pip Bandari to end 2023 on high

FKF Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia FC concluded the year on a triumphant note by securing a narrow 1-0 victory against Bandari FC in a league clash at Machakos Stadium.

Entering the match with the aim of securing their ninth win of the season, Gor Mahia were also eager to maintain their unbeaten record, having won eight and drawn seven of their previous 15 games in the season.

With victories in the recent two encounters against Bandari, Gor Mahia were determined to extend their successful run, which they accomplished after a closely contested 90 minutes.

Bandari FC, their opponents, approached the match after losing just one of their last seven league games.

A win in this encounter would have propelled them to third place in the league standings.

The first half of the match concluded without any goals, and the second half continued to be tightly contested.

Gor Mahia finally broke the deadlock in the final 10 minutes. Alpha Onyango initiated the play after a throw ball. He found Boniface Omondi at the edge of the box.

Omondi then set up Austin Odhiambo, who skillfully shifted the ball from his left foot to the right and unleashed a shot that eluded the Bandari goalkeeper in the 85th minute.

With this win, Gor Mahia extended their lead at the top of the standings, now five points clear.

After 16 matches, they have accumulated 34 points, boasting nine wins and seven draws. Gor Mahia remains unbeaten this season, having conceded only seven goals in the 16 matches played.

Their attacking prowess is evident with 21 goals scored, making them the second-best attacking team in the league, following Nairobi City Stars.
