Gor Mahia leave it late to secure crucial win over Posta Rangers

Gor Mahia needed a dramatic stoppage-time goal to edge past Posta Rangers and keep their hopes of retaining the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title alive.
K’Ogalo came into the match looking to bounce back from a disappointing 0-0 draw against Kakamega Homeboyz in their previous outing.
While the fixture appeared favourable for Gor Mahia, given Posta Rangers’ struggles this season, it turned out to be a much tougher challenge.
The first half ended goalless despite Gor Mahia dominating proceedings. K’Ogalo had to wait until the 72nd minute when DR Congo import Gedeon Bendeka broke the deadlock with a well-taken finish.
However, just when Gor Mahia thought they had secured the win, Posta Rangers stunned them by equalising six minutes from time, with Felix Oluoch converting from close range.
The referee initially added seven minutes of stoppage time, but play continued for two more, allowing Gor Mahia to snatch victory in the 97th minute. Alphonse Omija turned hero for K’Ogalo, bundling home a clever pass from Rooney Onyango to break the Mailmen’s hearts.
A furious Posta Rangers coach, Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo, questioned the additional stoppage time. “We didn’t deserve to play an extra nine minutes. The referee had initially indicated seven, but we kept playing,” he said.
“That’s when Gor Mahia scored. I don’t understand how the game continued beyond the seven minutes. All in all, my boys fought hard, we were close to a crucial point but ended up losing.”
The victory ensured Gor Mahia maintained third place in the 18-team league table, with 31 points from 18 matches, having recorded nine wins, four draws, and five defeats.
Meanwhile, Posta Rangers remained bottom with 17 points from four wins, five draws, and 10 losses.
In another fixture, FC Talanta and Mathare United settled for a 1-1 draw.
At the Mumias Complex, Kakamega Homeboyz secured a 2-0 win over newly promoted Mara Sugar, courtesy of first-half goals from Moses Shumah in the seventh minute and Esione Esiye in the 26th.
Homeboyz are now eighth on the log with 26 points from six wins, eight draws, and five losses, while Talanta dropped to 15th with 18 points from four wins, six draws, and nine defeats.
